About

The Berney Law Firm was founded in 1997 to make getting business legal services easy, efficient, and affordable.

I’m here for you.

Too many business owners, artists, and entrepreneurs avoid dealing with important legal matters because they think it will be way too complicated or outrageously expensive. But it doesn’t have to be that way. I founded The Berney Law Firm to remove those barriers for small and mid-sized businesses. I believe in keeping the practice lean, transparent, and efficient.

Low overhead:

Your fees won’t be footing the bill for my swanky office* or cushy expense account. Our process is designed to be easy on your time and budget.

No surprise bills:

I provide estimates and real-time updates for matters of dispute resolution, based on my 24 years of experience in litigation.

No obligation consultations:

If you have a question, ask. You never have to worry about how much it will cost or if you’re bothering me. I love helping clients solve their problems, and there’s no charge before you decide to hire me.

Flat fees:

Most services, like forming a business entity and registering trademarks are done for a flat fee.

You have found your business attorney.

Twenty-four years of legal experience. A proven track record of success. A commitment to small and medium-sized businesses. And a flair for solving problems. What more could you want? (Seriously, if there’s more, just let me know.)

About Christopher P. Berney

Christopher P. Berney, J.D., M.B.A.

Chris knows what it takes to run a business.

He discovered his own entrepreneurial spirit at the age of 18 and has never looked back. After studying advertising and public relations and earning an MBA, Chris decided the next logical step would be law school —because—as he tells it, “all the great guitar gigs in hot bands were already taken.”

But seriously, Chris genuinely loves helping people succeed in what they’re doing and being able to give them a lot of value for a reasonable price. Since passing the bar exam in 1997, he’s found that the thing that makes him happiest is being able to provide his clients with the kind of legal services and protections they thought would be too complicated or financially out of reach.

Chris’ creative flair, independent streak, and experience running his own companies make him the ideal business attorney for business owners, entrepreneurs, and artists.

Chris and his wife Caroline live in Grant Park with their two daughters. When he’s not practicing law, he enjoys tennis, fly fishing, and playing guitar.
